Smoke Detector Sensitivity Required Test

NFPA 72 7-3.2.1 states: "Detector sensitivity shall be checked within 1 year after installation and every alternate year thereafter. After the second required calibration test, if sensitivity tests indicate that the detector has remained within its listed and marked sensitivity range (or 4 percent obscuration light gray smoke. if not marked), the lenght of time between calibration tests shall be permitted to be extended to a maximum of 5 years. If the frequency is extented, records of detector cause nuisance alarms and subsequent trends of these alarms shall be maintained. In zones or in areas where nuisance alarms show any increase over the previous year, calibration tests shall be performed."

 

EDS Inc. shall perform sensitivity testing on all area smoke and duct smoke detectors.
Smoke or duct smoke detectors found outside the listed marked sensitivity range shall be cleaned and recalibrated and or replaced.

Sensitivity certification reports shall be provided to the facility upon completion.

Fire Smoke Damper Required Inspection, Test and Maintenance

Meet NFPA and JACHO requirements.

NFPA 2007) National Fire Protection Association 90A 5.4.7 states "At least every 4 years, fusible links (where applicable) shall be removed; all dampers shall be operated to verify that they fully close; the latch, if provided, shall be checked; and moving parts shall be lubricated as necessary."

NFPA 2007) National Fire Protection Association 80 19.4.1.1 states "Each damper shall be tested and inspected 1 year after installation. The test and inspection frequency shall then be every 4 years, except in Hospitals, where the frequency shall be every 6 years.

NFPA 2007) National Fire Protection Association 105 6.5.2 states "Each damper shall be tested and inspected 1 year after installation. The test and inspection frequency shall then be every 4 years, except in Hospitals, where the frequency shall be every 6 years.

UL) Underwriters Laboratories, Inc., reminds all property owners whose buildings are equipped with fire, smoke and combination fire/smoke dampers to comply with NFPA 90A.

 

 

Effective January 1st, 2008

JCAHO) Applicable to Ambulatory Care AHC, Behavioral Health Care BHC, Critical Access Hospital CAH, Home Care OME, Hospital HAP, Long Term Care LTC, Medicare/Medicaid Certification-Based Long Term Care LT2, and Office-Based Surgery OBS.

All fire and smoke dampers are operated one year after installation and them at least every AHC,BHC,LTC,LT2,OBS,OME four years. CAH, HAP six years in buildings where inpatient services are provided and four years in other buildings to verify that they close. For additional guildance, see NFPA 80-2007 and NFPA 105-2007.

Effective May 18, 2009

JCAHO)Ambulatory Surgical Center Deemed Status CAMAC. JACHO-EP 18 Requires the organization operates fire and smoke dampers at least every 4 years to verify that they fully close. completion date of the tests is documented. For additional guidance see NFPA 80 and NFPA90A.

 

Electronic Design Solutions Inc. shall provide a complete detailed certification report for each fire or smoke fire damper upon completion.
